Margaret Matray is an Indianapolis-based writer currently working in nonprofit communications.
Before moving to Indiana in 2021, she was a staff writer for nine years at The Virginian-Pilot, where she covered courts and public safety. She enjoys writing about life that happens between the bold headlines and is always on the lookout for a good story.
At The Pilot, she delved into a wrongful conviction and uncovered a hidden cemetery. She shined a light on a woman’s death in a local jail and explored the underground world of illicit massage parlors in the region’s suburbs.
Before her time in Virginia, Margaret spent four years as a features reporter for the Casper Star-Tribune, the statewide daily newspaper in Wyoming.
She’s a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a Midwest native.
