Margaret Matray is a staff writer for The Virginian-Pilot, where she covers courts and public safety. She enjoys writing about life that happens between the bold headlines and is always on the lookout for a good story.
At The Pilot, she followed a former mayor navigating life with Alzheimer’s and investigated the disappearance of a boy no one knew was missing for 11 years. She delved into an unsolved murder case and explored a hidden cemetery.
Before moving to Virginia in October 2012, Margaret spent four years as a features reporter for the Casper Star-Tribune, the statewide daily newspaper in Wyoming. There, she wrote about everything from old sourdough bread to a mysterious pile of teddy bears in the middle of nowhere.
She’s a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and lives in Norfolk, Va.
